Souneil Park joined Telefonica as an associate researcher in January 2014. He is interested in analyzing online media use and developing technologies to enhance people's ability to comprehensively understand, reason, and make well-informed decisions. He primarily worked in the realm of online news and now he is extending his research to reading behaviors in mobile devices. His works have been highly cross-disciplinary and he has experience in various fields including HCI, data mining, and information visualization.
Prior to that, he finished his PhD at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) in 2011. During his PhD, he developed the NewsCube system, a news aggregation system that encourages readers to explore different perspectives through clustered presentation of news articles. His work has been published at CHI, ACL, ICWSM and one piece of his work won the Honorable Mention award at CSCW 2011. He won PhD student fellowship from Microsoft Research Asia at 2008, and from KFAS (Korea Foundation of Advanced Studies) at 2007.
He was a post doctoral research fellow at the Univ. of Michigan School of Information and built RumorLens, an interactive visualization tool for rumor analysis, together with Paul Resnick's research group.
