Telefónica NFV Reference Lab_

NFV Reference Lab implements the reference network virtualisation architecture under standardisation at ETSI’s NFV ISG which provide a practical setup for homogeneous testing and operation of network virtualisation technologies. 

The NFV Reference Lab hosts an agnostic reference architecture available for:

  • Validation and certification of virtualised network functions that Telefónica intends to acquire or evaluate.
  • Validation and certification of NFV resource management modules (NFVO, VNFMs, etc.)

This approach grants the reliability and portability of the solutions under evaluation across operations in the target open multi-vendor environment. The reference lab is physically located in Madrid at TI+D/GCTO’s labs.


Open Source MANO (OSM) Collaboration

Open Source MANO has been created under the umbrella of ETSI in 2016 and it is an operator-led community to meet the requirements of production NFV networks such as a common Information Model (IM) that has been defined, implemented and released in open source software.

OSM’s project scope covers both Resource and Service Orchestration to allow automated deployment and interconnection of all components, both for NFV network scenarios and the management of Network Service Life Cycles.

Telefónica collaborates with this initiative since its launching, both presiding as contributing code through its OpenMANO project created under the NFV Reference Lab.

OpenMANO provides a highly functional framework pioneering the first open source NFV Orchestration and Management stack.

The orchestration stack is a key component of Telefónica’s NFV Reference Lab and has been released in the open community to keep its continuous functional evolution.
